A Sweet Journey on College Road – My Conversation with Divya

Whenever I walk through Nungambakkam’s famous College Road, one place never fails to bring back memories. The smell of freshly baked treats, the warm atmosphere, and the familiar buzz always make me nostalgic. On this road stands a small but special café that many of us cannot miss. And today, for Remira Talks, I had the joy of meeting the woman behind it — Mrs. Divya.

Divya’s journey into baking began in 2019, but her connection to this field started much earlier. Her husband had been in the baking business since 2010, and that exposure sparked her own dream of starting a brand. But she wanted to do something different. Not just doughnuts, but cinnamon rolls — and not just one flavour, but many varieties Chennai had never seen before. That’s how her brand quietly took shape.

Then came the 2020 lockdown. While many businesses struggled, her café unexpectedly reached more customers because people began searching for good desserts available nearby. From donuts and cinnamon rolls, she slowly expanded into sandwiches, pizzas, and pastas — all based on what her customers around College Road loved.

Divya shared openly about the challenges of starting small, managing marketing by understanding her audience, and building a menu that feels both authentic and comforting. She also spoke about franchise requests, women approaching her for guidance, and how she helps beginners understand the basics of running a baking business.

One of the most thoughtful parts of our chat was when we discussed opportunities for special‑needs individuals in bakeries. Divya said she is open to it as long as the workplace feels safe, comfortable, and encouraging for them.

Speaking to Divya felt like speaking to a grounded, sincere entrepreneur who built her dream step by step. Her story proves that passion, patience, and understanding your audience can turn a simple idea into a beautiful space.

There’s so much more she shared — her process, her learnings, her warmth.
